Walnut box with opalized petrified wood

$300.00

A handsome box with an inlay made from petrified wood. The wood contains a couple fossilized knots, one of which looks like an eye. The petrified wood is from the McDermitt Caldera on the Oregon/Nevada border and is approximately 14.5 million years old. Microscopically, the petrified wood is very well preserved and the cell walls can be seen to be intact. The walnut is of course much, much younger. The box measures 8” x 8” x 4” and also features a lid-lift inlay made from the same petrified wood.
